How did we develop the survey?

It was a team effort!

We built on leading research by adapting questionnaires from previous climate change surveys, including studies across North America and Australia. We drew on findings from over a decade of our own research to create new, novel questions. As a team, we had regular meetings to discuss, edit, and refine the questionnaire and survey design.

Once we were happy with the draft questionnaire, it underwent multiple rounds of pre-testing. Our colleagues, family, friends, and even a random sample of people in Canada answered the survey questions and provided insightful feedback. Each round of pre-testing led to more in-depth discussions between the research team, and we made further modifications to strengthen the survey.

Malatest, a Canadian-owned private research firm, was awarded a contract to administer the survey. Malatest will use online and telephone questionnaires to interview at least 3,575 people in Canada in English, French, and Inuktitut between April 2022 and March 2023.
